Access to Sabiha Gökçen International Airport via the metro was established by extending the M4 Kadıköy–Sabiha Gökçen Metro Line eastward from Tavşantepe through the Pendik–Kurtköy axis. The line became operational on October 2, 2022, directly integrating the airport into Istanbul’s rail network.

With the metro reaching the airport, establishing fast, intuitive, and seamless passenger connections between terminal structures and the metro system became a priority. Accordingly, the T2 Terminal–Metro Integration Project encompasses architectural links providing direct access and spatial solutions designed to optimize passenger circulation.

During the initial design phase of the terminal building—which opened in 2009 and was designed by our firm—forward-looking planning decisions were made to ensure the seamless integration of a future metro connection, and the necessary spatial reserves were established. The current project brings these visions to life, aiming to foster a robust integration between the metro system and the airport. It strives to create a public spatial arrangement that supports urban transportation continuity while offering a clear and legible passenger experience.
